Here’s something I didn’t know. Dolphins are trained using the same system as dogs.
It’s called clicker training and, while a dolphin gets a whistle as it jumps through a hoop to let it know it’s done something correctly and it’ll be getting a treat for it, a dog gets a ‘click’ on a plastic gizmo.
This concept was introduced to me in the space of an hour. Soon I had taught my puppy to sit, lie down and get into his cage on verbal command.
Amazing. I can turn him in circles, guide him around the house and out of my way with my hand and 93 times out of 100 he comes when I call. We’re working on that last seven per cent – I call it trophy ball syndrome and all dog owners will know what that means.
