Can somebody have a word with the French? And the Spaniards and the Italians. It appears our continental cousins have not been pulling their weight. They have fallen behind in their duties and we’re the ones who’ll suffer.
Don’t worry, I’m not coming over all UKIP, it’s about a report showing European wine production has fallen by almost a quarter over a decade and can’t be explained by bad weather. Production in America, Australia and New Zealand is rising, but we are drinking about three billion cases a year (and I put my hands up to helping with that) while only 2.8bn cases are being produced. It means prices will go up and we’ll turn away from the traditional wines of mainland Europe. Perhaps it’d be easier to move to Argentina.
