Money to heat MPs’ homes is enough to buy 8,000 jumpers

Have your say

I was shocked to read about the expenses claims made by MPs for the heating of second homes, as reported in Sunday’s papers.

Apparently more than £200,000 of the taxpayers’ money has been dished out to keep MPs warm.

One quick calculation tells me that’s enough to buy 8,000 jumpers.

This is budgeting each sweater at £25, which I think is quite a large sum, seeing as you can actually get super thick and woolly ones – a tad unfashionable I will admit – from almost every secondhand shop on Gosport high street for £1.

Isn’t it time we paid for MPs to be accommodated in a purpose-built hostel instead of letting them have second homes and then trusting them to do right with our money?
