While Splash! may not be to everyone’s taste, it’s a big hit on ITV’s Saturday night schedule.
And, as you can’t fail to have noticed, under the watchful eye of Olympic star Tom Daley, Portsmouth North MP Penny Mordaunt is taking part tomorrow.
This is, to say the least, a brave move.
While political opponents have criticised her decision to go on the show, it’s hard to find fault with her drive and determination.
Weeks of practice coupled with inevitable pain is certainly not the easy option.
And if that was in any doubt, just read our story on page 21 today, which comes with a stark image of Penny nursing bruises and a dislocated thumb.
But what could be forgotten in the razzamatazz is why she’s doing it.
Her motivation is to give a much-needed financial boost to a fundraising drive in Portsmouth.
Penny is giving her £10,000 fee to the group behind the ambitious restoration plan for Hilsea Lido.
Not only that, but she’s encouraging supporters to donate to a raft of other charities including ABF, The Soldiers’ Charity, the RAF Benevolent Fund and the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity.
Good causes one and all, and no doubt they will reap the benefits from her leap from the 7.5m diving board.
So whether you’re a Conservative voter or not and whether you watch Splash! or not, why not take the chance to do something to help others?
Yes these are constrained times financially, but that problem is one that charities are facing too.
So why not let Penny be the inspiration to give a little money to help the charities that help so many with a history in the armed forces?
