CLIVE SMITH: English pigs? Don’t bite the hand that feeds you

As is the custom at this time of year, I'll start this week by wishing all readers a merry Christmas and a happy New Year.

Hopefully the bone-numbing cold will ease a little come the end of the week, just in time for the traditional celebrations.

We're already starting work on our Christmas Eve edition, which will include plenty of seasonal stories and pictures.

We'll also feature My Christmas panels for well-known people in the area and will carry Christmas messages from church leaders.

Neither The News nor the Sports Mail will be published on Saturday, December 25, but we shall be back on Monday, December 27, with news from the holiday weekend and of course full coverage of Pompey's Boxing Day match against Millwall at Fratton Park.
