Coronation Street producers clearly think a 50th birthday is a good time for death, destruction and wailing grief.

Congratulations to Corrie's cast who handled a live episode better than their rivals Eastenders.

But did you really have to scream so much?

It was like watching a disaster movie – where everyone comes to a bloody end.

I'm all for a bit of heart-wrenching drama. It doesn't take much to make a little tear come to the corner of my eye and streak down my blotchy face.

But I can't be the only viewer who thinks it was a pretty grim way to mark a landmark anniversary.
