I’ve been reading some articles about the Royal Victoria Pavilion in Ramsgate.
It shares some similarities with our own South Parade Pier. It was built during the Victorian era and it has fallen into disrepair.
But there the similarities end. Unlike our pier, it is still under council control.
It was put up for sale and there were numerous expressions of interest.
The council is now considering a bid from JD Wetherspoon, which wants to spend £3m on it and turn it into a pub.
So, a credible bid, a named organisation and a solid plan to regenerate a crumbling seafront icon.
Now, hopefully it’s our turn with new owners promising South Parade Pier will be returned to its former glory.
