You are never far away from the stench of hypocrisy in the world of professional football.
Former Pompey manager, Harry Redknapp, now plying his trade at Tottenham Hotspur, was whining this week because one of his transfer targets, Juan Mata, had decided to sign for Chelsea instead.
Apparently Senor Mata was poised to put pen to paper on a deal with the White Hart Lane outfit when the moneymen from Stamford Bridge wooed him away with bags full of cash.
‘They can blow you out of the water wage-wise,’ he grumbled. ‘Then he changes his mind and they get him.’
The lure of money has, of course, never played any part in the life and times of the multi-millionaire Mr Redknapp.
