Our mother tongue needs to evolve over time and texting

Here we go again, yet another survey is forecasting the extinction of certain sections of the English language.

Apparently, words like ‘diabolical,’ and ‘shenanigans’ are about to disappear from the mother tongue for good as text-speak takes over.

This is nonsense on several levels.

Firstly, you can’t expect kids nowadays to tap such words into their mobile phone. Their thumbs would seize up (even if they could spell them)

Secondly, corruptions like ‘soz’ and ‘4get’ will simply be added to the lexicon just as other words have over the years as the language has continued to evolve.

If it didn’t, we would all be shouting ‘gadzooks’ or ‘shiver me timbers’ in moments of surprise or high excitement.
