Pompey and Saints to share ground? What a foolish idea

Have your say

Did you get fooled on April 1? This year’s were very lame. Gone are the days of the War Of The Worlds radio broadcasts by Orson Welles and footage of spaghetti growing on trees. Photoshop and computer-generated imagery have ruined that.

I’m most proud of the April Fool I told my listeners back in 1997. I broke the news that as Pompey and Saints could not afford their own new stadiums they were to build a new one at Fareham, half way between the cities and share the ground.

You can imagine the reaction. The phones went crazy. Upset and angry fans saying they would never set foot in the 35,000-seater Solidarity Park... even if the seats were neutral white.
