Problem is players’ talent doesn’t match the price tag

Another example of what is wrong with English football was demonstrated this week when it was revealed Manchester United were put off signing 18-year-old Luke Shaw from Southampton because of the £40m price tag.

Why are English players so vastly over-valued? Yes he’s a good prospect, but if he were French or Spanish, he’d be worth a quarter of that.

I reckon more English players need to play abroad so our national game benefits from all the experience of differing styles and cultures.

At that price, this is why none of them do. Their talent doesn’t match the price tag. Until this changes, England will always be second-rate and other nations more motivated to beat us.
