A picture of the dreadful accident at Cowplain in which an elderly woman was hurt, an invitation to take photographs at a school fair and a suggestion that we look again at drinks promotions in Portsmouth city centre: those were the subjects of just three of the many emails I received from readers last week.

Tips, ideas and contributions from readers are a mainstay of any newspaper. They are testament to the statement we publish on our front page every day, namely that ‘it’s all about you’.

Story suggestions are just one way in which readers can help shape The News, just as letters and pictures from those who buy the paper are so important to us.

As I’ve often said in this column, there is always bad news around and so we’re particularly keen to hear of uplifting stories about personal achievement.
