It’s that time of year again. The energy companies register dirty great profits and then spend big chunks trying to convince us they are justified in ripping us off.
It’s the turn of Centrica to reveal a record haul as operating profits surged 29 per cent to £2.4bln.
In addition, Centrica’s subsidiary British Gas made record profits of £742m – a leap of 24 per cent.
Not only are we paying for gas and electricity at vastly inflated prices, we have to cover the costs of the company’s pollution so that the shareholders can get away with ever-increasing prices and dividends.
Is that fair?
