They say nostalgia isn’t what it used to be. But judging by the huge crowds at the Goodwood Revival over the weekend, we still love to look back.
Retro is cool these days and people of all ages came to see the historic motor racing dressed in 1940s and 1950s outfits and with hair carefully coiffeured to evoke everything from land girls to film stars.
As 10 Spitfires flew overhead to recreate a Battle of Britain scramble and gorgeous period racing cars roared around the track, it was like stepping back in time.
People were smart, unfailingly polite, had smiles on their faces and all was well.
No wonder so many were reluctant to re-enter the harsh real world of 2011 come Sunday night.
