Ijust don’t understand how Ronnie Biggs has been portrayed as a cheeky chappie who happened to be a bank robber.
It really must be the best example of public relations ever.
Here we have a man who was part of a gang that stole £2.6m from the Glasgow to London mail train in 1963 by beating the driver of that train so badly he never properly recovered.
Banged up two years later for a 30-year stretch, Biggs broke out and fled to Australia and Brazil.
He only came home to take advantage of the NHS.
It’s about time we stopped celebrating the man, especially now he has died, as some sort of Cockney Robin Hood.
He was a thief and the money he stole lined only his own pockets.
