I’ve been on this planet a good few years now, but there are still many things that puzzle me.
The start of the football season has reminded me of one that has always had me beat – why do managers have to have their initials embroidered or transfer-printed on to their shorts, sweatshirts and anoraks?
We already know their identity, so is it in case they or some of their intellectually-challenged players simply forget who they are?
Or is it, a bit like sewing name tags into schoolchildren’s PE kit, a way to help the person doing all the washing at the club know which gear is the boss’s so they can put in extra fabric conditioner?
I’m genuinely puzzled.
Can anybody put me straight?
