For the past couple of weeks I’ve been playing what I believe to be the best song of the year so far – Gosport Nancy by Bellowhead.
It’s an old navy drinking song, believed to have been written as long as 100 years ago.
No-one knows who wrote it, but apparently it was a popular ‘shanty’ during war.
You can just imagine a pub bursting to the brim with sailors back from deployment, beer swilling and local girls getting all the attention.
I did get a very amusing call from a girl called Nancy from Gosport. She wanted all the single men to know there would be a Gosport Nancy in Emma’s nightclub that night.
Wonder if she got any takers?
