As another storm is about to hit the south, we’re reminded of the sheer force of Mother Nature.
Severe Gale Force 9 winds on Monday lifted trees, flooded areas and cut off the Isle of Wight for a time. Even the Newhaven ferry had to seek shelter in Portsmouth.
I wonder what tonight’s predicted storm will bring? Surely it can’t match the hurricanes of 1987 and 1990. Wind speeds of Force 12 with 120mph gusts cost lives.
This year forecasters have been unable to predict with any great accuracy where the next storm will hit. Goes to show that even with a £50m computer, the weather still hold the trump card.
Time to batten down the hatches, as they say in the navy.
