We’ve been warned: take your child out of school and you will be punished.
A spokesperson on the radio commented: ‘Children must attend school, education is vital. This governance has been brought in to guarantee high rates of attendance.’
So it’s punishable for a parent to remove their child from school for a day, but it’s fine for the school to close the building for the day for ‘inset’ training.
It’s well documented that teachers receive 13 weeks-plus of leave per annum. Rather than cutting down school days, teacher development should happen within their extensive holidays.
And don’t get me started about the forthcoming teachers’ strikes.
