TIS the season to be jolly and with that in mind I hope that readers have enjoyed the photographs of school nativities that we have been publishing.

They’ve given a great early sense of Christmas and this week we’ll be continuing to build up to the holiday weekend.

From Wednesday until Saturday we shall be publishing the four winning entries to our Christmas ghost story competition (and don’t forget to visit portsmouth.co.uk to hear Meridian anchorman Fred Dinenage read the spooky tales).

Last Saturday, we published our 60-page Christmas TV supplement and, for the benefit of those who did not get a copy – or perhaps manage to lose it in the meantime – we shall be running three days of holiday TV listings in next Saturday’s paper.

The News will be taking a break next Monday but we shall be back at breakfast time on Tuesday with all the big news and pictures from the holiday weekend and, of course, with the best coverage of Pompey’s Boxing Day match at Millwall.

On behalf of everyone here at The News, I’d like to wish all readers a merry Christmas and a happy new year. Thank you for your support during 2011 and we look forward to bringing you all the news in 2012.
