Apologies if you’re a little squeamish, but I came face to face with my first tick last weekend.

Boy, are those creepy little suckers.

The dog’s had a few now. I wasn’t sure that the first one was a tick and it had gone before I found someone who could identify it.

The second dropped off in the garden seconds before I psyched myself up to tackle its removal.

But the third...yikes, this one really was the stuff of nightmares.

What surprised me most of all was the contradictory advice on the internet and that I received from other people – from burning to Vaseline to pinching.

If you’re in need of tick removal, I highly recommend a tick twister. It worked well for my dog anyway.
