I’m a big fan of the NHS. It’s easy to find fault, but when we need it, it is there for us and the care is excellent. I feel lucky and proud to be British because of it.

Born at the QA Hospital, our son Freddie was seriously ill and the care and attention he received was truly remarkable.

This week Southampton General has come under fire for closing the Burger King in its shopping mall.

For the two weeks we were at both hospitals, coffee and the odd burger were a treat and made us feel normal.

I understand the image of fast food may not suit a hospital, but neither does the sight of people stood outside in pyjamas, holding an intravenous drip while smoking a cigarette.
