Another Christmas, but still the same old festive television. In the past the countdown to Christmas started with a ‘partridge in a pear tree’, a mere 12 days before Father Christmas would squeeze himself down the chimney.

But now it all starts way back in late summer with the auditions for X Factor.

Then there’s Strictly Come Dancing, which graces our screens week after week after week. And I’m A Celebrity... – week after week after week. You get the picture.

When all this dross actually finishes, we know that Christmas is really upon us and we can finally watch some decent festive TV, right?

Wrong! Because 98 per cent of films shown over Christmas will be repeats.
