Visit to New Orleans gave me a much better understanding

Portsmouth South MP Stephen Morgan: Hectic start, but election is just the beginning

Have your say

I was devastated when I heard about the unbelievable turmoil the tornado that hit Oklahoma left in its wake.

What an absolute tragedy, another one to add to those happening around the world.

Is something really weird going on with the weather? I know America is prone to tornados, but in the past 10 years or so it seems the world’s weather patterns have gone crazy, leaving a path of destruction.

It wasn’t until I visited New Orleans this year and witnessed for myself the clean-up efforts after Hurricane Katrina (which happened in 2005) did I truly understand or appreciate the magnitude of such events.

Watching TV or reading a newspaper doesn’t really give you a full appreciation of the extent of these catastrophes.
