Watch out everyone, seems like the Americans are trying to understand sarcasm.
While they have their own version, they’re trying to devise a computer algorithm to detect sarcasm in tweets.
The tender for the software is being put out by the American Secret Service – hopefully to prevent them thinking people who tweet sarcastically are going to turn terrorist when they’ve been stuck in a hot customs queue for an hour.
Now, as many humans can’t pick up on sarcasm, let alone irony, what hope do computers have?
But if the US Secret Service teamed up with Japanese inventors who have built a robot that detects and interacts with human emotion, we’d be on the way to creating artificial intelligence.
