We did each other’s make-up and hair – how girly is that?

STEVE CANAVAN: It was a lot of rattle over just a little roll

Have your say

On Sunday I spent the night with my mum and two sisters for a pre-wedding pamper break at the Langstone Hotel in Hayling Island – and it was just what we all needed.

I organised it for them as a surprise for a few reasons.

1. Because, well, both my older sisters are getting married in the next couple of weeks in Cuba and I wanted it to be a little treat.

2. Because it’s Mother’s Day when we’re over there, although we have taken her the cards and usual presents (knowing we wouldn’t get away with by-passing it this year).

3. Because I felt a little guilty that I haven’t been around to help with the pre-wedding build up – which wasn’t my fault.

I’ve been working at ITN in London, but still I wanted us all to remember something I had done for them.

Honestly, even though it’s only up the road it really does feel like you’re away from everything back here in Portsmouth.

I booked us in at the spa to have a massage and facial each and we spent all afternoon chilling out and using the leisure facilities before nipping back to our room for some girly time.

We even did each other’s hair and make-up – now that really is a girls’ break away!

We had a stunning three-course meal in the restaurant, which overlooks the harbour and honestly peeps, if you ever just fancy getting away for a while but don’t want the hassle of driving for ages to get there, I would really recommend it.

By the time you read this, we’ll be in Cuba and I’m hoping that my sisters are going to be relaxed and not the Bridezillas that apparently women turn into on their wedding days. I wouldn’t know as mine isn’t until next year!

I have to admit, all the talk of the weddings and the buzz and excitement that the whole family has felt has made me get a little excited about mine, although it’s a fair few months before I walk down the aisle.

I keep thinking about how best to decorate our venue, Southend Barns in Chichester. If you have any cool ideas, please do let me know.

I’m not as artistic as my sisters, so I need all the help I can get!
