VERITY LUSH: Yet another example of distasteful American influence sweeping the UK

Have your say

We’re getting ready for one of the biggest nights of our year – The News Business Excellence Awards annual presentation dinner.

Once again, there has been a strong entry to each of the categories and, as ever, anticipation will be at fever pitch at Portsmouth Guildhall as the winners are revealed.

It is always a great night and, if you have not booked your ticket yet then call (023) 9262 2750 to book your firm’s places at the event.

Tickets are £45.50+VAT per head and this year come with a complimentary ticket to the Richmond Enclosure at Goodwood worth £79.

The Business Excellence Awards are just one sign of our commitment to supporting the business community.

Last week, we announced the results of our contribution to The Newspaper Society’s Local Business Accelerator initiative, backed by Deborah Meaden from Dragons’ Den.

Set up in October, it saw 500 newspapers offer free advertising to businesses who proved to be the most dynamic.

As we reported, Prime Minister David Cameron has congratulated regional newspapers including The News for the initiative, saying: ‘It’s brilliant that so many promising young companies, from such a wide range of sectors, are benefiting from this excellent initiative.’

And of course together with the Solent Local Enterprise Partnership this newspaper has successfully bid for £2.1m of funding from the government’s Regional Growth Fund.

This money will help small and medium-sized businesses grow and cope with tough financial times.
