We’re looking forward to street party bonanza

VERITY LUSH: Yet another example of distasteful American influence sweeping the UK

Have your say

We’re thrilled to have relaunched our Let’s Have a Party! campaign. It was first run last year to encourage readers to celebrate the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton – as if most needed encouragement! – and now we hope there will be another street party bonanza to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

Already residents of many streets across the area have registered their party intentions with their local council.

And there’s still time to join in. Fareham Borough Council has set a deadline of April 15 for applications, Gosport needs to know by April 20, and Havant has set a cut-off date of May 11.

In Portsmouth there were already a large number of applications before the deadline date of last Friday, and staff at the city council were meeting today to discuss whether extending the time period for residents to register.

We’re committed to covering all parties held on or around the Jubilee celebration weekend of June 2-5 and will also be featuring in advance many of the community get-togethers being planned.

So if you have planned a street party, then please let reporter Sheanne Mulholland know.
