When kids can spell better, make the pay packet better

Have your say

So the teachers have been on strike again.

A spokesman said: ‘No teacher has any wish to inconvenience parents or disrupt pupils’ education.’

Funny that, considering it’s exactly what the strike has done!

In a recent survey by OECD, we ranked 22nd out of 24 countries for literacy. Is it any wonder teachers don’t want performance-related pay? Maybe only when our kids can spell better should the pay packet be better.

I find it strange how parents get fined for taking their children out of school, yet it’s acceptable for the teachers to strike and children to miss school.

Will a cheque arrive in the post to cover the costs of childcare/loss of earnings etc? I wouldn’t hold your breath.
