Did you know it was 24 years ago this week that the face of radio on the south coast changed for good?

Before December 4, 1988, pop music fans had to put up with Radio 1 on medium wave. That was until Power FM was launched!

The much-missed commercial station changed radio here, with long sweeps of non-stop music, ‘five in a row’ and Power in the Park entertaining us.

Listening back, Radio 1 sounded so cheesy next to it. Many of the stations you hear today take their style from that station.

It was the one many a presenter was desperate to work on, including me!

Fortunately, I ended up doing just that for 11 years. Happy days.
