Did you hear the one about the taxpayer who has got to stump up £155,000 because a police officer tried to open a window by putting her hand through it?
The story is the Royal Courts of Justice have upheld a decision to award Kerry Ann Taylor £5,024 compensation because she cut her thumb while dismantling a cannabis factory.
The fumes were getting to her, so she tried to open a window but, not realising it was sealed, put her hand straight through the glass.
I’m sorry, but who opens a window by pushing the glass bit in the first place?
Now the force has to pay £150,000 appeal court costs, as well as the compensation.
It has insurance for the first £100,000, but also had to pay the £100,000 costs of the original hearing. Oh dear.
