Have you heard of the Bechdel Test for women in movies? I learned about it this week.

To pass the test, all a movie has to do is have two women, who have names and who talk to each other about something other than a man.

Sounds simple, doesn’t it? But watch out ladies, next time you watch a film, check out how it will probably fail this easy test. It’s scary. Women, it seems, are there on the big screen only to talk about men.

Even if they do manage to speak to one another about something else, it’s for a matter of seconds, not minutes.

Just knowing about this test has now affected my viewing, not only of movies but of TV. Reading books too.

It’s now squatting in my psyche.
