World’s leaders can’t agree on the best action for Syria

STEVE CANAVAN: It was a lot of rattle over just a little roll

Tomorrow Barack Obama is due to address the American people about Syria and the US’s response to atrocities there.

Over the weekend, the leaders of the world’s 20 most powerful countries were locked in a debate about how to respond to chemical attacks made on Syria’s people.

It’s still not been definitively proven whether the attacks were made on the orders of president al-Assad, were the work of the military acting outside of its orders or were the work of the rebels.

That’s why the UK has said no to joining the US in any action against the Syrian government, no matter how punitive.

I’m no politician. But I do wish, most fervently, an end to the violence and suffering somehow.
