You don’t need to have been a hospital patient to recognise that there are problems with the standard of care we currently provide for those who are sick.
In fact, you often see more when you’re a relative looking at the way your loved one is treated, rather than yourself.
Past experience with my own family means I believe the concerns raised recently about the standard of nursing in many of the country’s hospitals.
From a bedside position I’ve seen nurses struggling to do their best, plus individuals clearly more interested in chatting about their patients than providing care for them.
Only one thing is clear. It will take a lot more than a soundbite or two (like David Cameron’s ‘patients not paperwork’) to solve this one.
