THEY offer some of the most beautiful scenery for miles around.

But the cycle and walking tracks of Havant Thicket and Staunton Country Park are underused.

Now an event has been organised to get more people using this stretch of countryside between Havant and Rowlands Castle.

The free event coincides with the Forestry Commission’s Discovery Day, which is aimed at getting people to explore their local woodland.

A guided cycle ride will start at 10.30am on Sunday from Havant Thicket car park in Manor Lodge Road, Rowlands Castle.

The event is being support by cycling group Portsmouth CTC.

Mike Ashton, a CTC campaigner, said: ‘There are few opportunities close to Havant borough to cycle off road and gain confidence and not many people seem to be aware of these tracks or that they are available for use by cyclists.

‘CTC Portsmouth has been working with Hampshire County Council and the Forestry Commission to improve the availability of these routes.’

There will also be guided walks on Sunday, starting at 10.30am and 1.30pm from Havant Thicket car park.
