The official opening ceremony of a state-of-the-art outdoor gym is to take place next month.

Havant Borough Council and sports giant Adidas will be officially unveiling the adiZone at Eastoke Corner on Hayling Island.

The seafront gym opened in August and has already proved hugely popular.

The opening of the gym is to ensure the Havant borough has its own taste of the London 2012 Olympics.

As well as the fitness equipment, the area includes a basketball, football and tennis area, a climbing wall, and an open area to encourage dance, aerobics and gymnastics.

Councillor Andy Lenaghan, who is in charge of culture and community in the Havant borough, said: 'The feedback since the gym was completed in the summer has been great. Now with the official launch set for January 21, it's a great opportunity for people to jump on the bandwagon of new year's resolutions - "New Year New You".

'The facility is open 365 days a year so there is no excuse - it's open at any time!'

He added: 'This project was the result of months of hard work behind the scenes by officers at the council securing the funding necessary to make it happen. I hope residents across the borough enjoy using it and benefit from it.'

The ceremony takes place at 1pm and will include demonstrations from local college students.
