The afternoon of fun – dubbed an End of Summer Hawaiian Beach Party – saw children craft their own exotic fruit kebabs and play beach ball games.

They got stuck into pass the parcel and played on climbing frames and slides.

The sandy play- ground was transformed into a disco as kids danced to classic and modern-day numbers.

Samantha Gregory, 30, of Cheltenham Road, Paulsgrove, took her four children, Lizzie, Roxy, Rosie and April.

‘It’s been fantastic. I’ve enjoyed myself today and the kids have had loads of fun.

‘They should do more events like this in the area.’

Former Portsmouth football club star Ray Crawford, 75, from Portchester, made an appearance.

He said: ‘It’s been lovely for the grandchildren.

‘They’ve been able to let their hair down and enjoy themselves.’

Nancy Coleman, 26, playground manager, said: ‘It’s been great to see so many families turn up and support us.’

Domino’s Pizza dished up food.

The event was set up to raise funds for future development of the playground and to arrange days out for local children.

More than £536 was donated.
