HAYLING Island is known for being as flat as a pancake – but a mountain has suddenly appeared on the seafront.
The colossal pile of pebbles is being stored in a car park at Eastoke Corner as part of on-going sea defence works by Havant Borough Council.
Huge boulders have been imported from Norway and placed along the coastline at Sandy Point.
The pebbles will then be poured into the gaps between the rocks.
Leah Turner, a local councillor, said: ‘It’s a spectacle – it’s an enormous mountain.
‘Apparently it can’t move and someone saw a digger on top of it. It’s going to be transported to Sandy Point over the next few weeks.’
