AN ELDERLY woman was rescued from a historic fort’s moat after she went in to save her dog.

The woman, thought to be in her 90s, was trying to reach her Corgi on Saturday afternoon. The animal had gone into the water at Fort Brockhurst in Gosport at around 12.30pm.

Crew manager Paul Rogers said one appliance from Gosport went to help , but she had already been pulled out by passers-by.

He said: ‘We helped rescue an elderly lady from the moat in Fort Brockhurst. Her dog went in and she went in after it.’

The woman was unhurt with a few scratches from brambles.
