A woman who received a call from Tim Peake in space hung up on him because she thought it was a prank.

Betty Barker, 79, took the call at 11pm on Christmas eve. “I thought it was someone who had been out down the pub who was having me on,” she told a news agency.

Major Peake tweeted from the International Space Station apologising.

He said: “I’d like to apologise to the lady I just called by mistake saying ‘Hello, is this planet Earth?’ - not a prank call...just a wrong number!”
