A PENSIONER who crashed his mobility scooter through a glass walkway and fell 12ft to his death has been named.

Benjamin Withers, 82, of Fareham, was leaving Fareham Health Centre on Thursday, September 20, when the accident happened.

The electric scooter, panes of glass and jagged pieces of the wooden window frame remained on the ground for hours afterwards.

As previously reported in The News, he was declared dead at the scene and police sealed off Osborn Road near Fareham Civic Offices and shops.

The man’s identity was released by the Coroner’s Office and an inquest into his death was opened and adjourned on Monday.
