WINDSURFERS faced bitter cold weather to take part in an annual contest.

Competitors from across the UK headed to Hayling Island to take part in a 15-mile race.

Called Round Hayling, yesterday 55 windsurfers took part.

This year’s contest also included paddle boarders who went a shorter distance.

Brothers Jez Bull, 39, and Stephen Bull. 36, of Gosport took part.

Jez’s wife Heather, 29, was supporting, along with her mother-in-law Christine, 64, and her sister, Lucy Collier, 25.

Heather said: ‘Jez is really into watersports and this was his second time.

‘It was really cold, but I think they’ll do well.

‘We went to Northney and the ferry point to see them at different places.’

The event was organised by Hayling Island Sailing Club yesterday.

Gerald New, of the club, said: ‘We had a few people drop out, but it was bitterly cold.

‘People did really well to take part, and it was a great event.’
