THERE were ‘oohs’ and ‘ahhs’ and then cheers of joy as a runner fell down on one knee after finishing the race.

But it wasn’t due to exhaustion.

Paul Buckland, 39, was proposing to his girlfriend of three years, Christy Richards, 32, as they crossed the finish line together.

Paul said: ‘It was brilliant. I actually wanted to do it before the race but I didn’t have enough time.’

Christy, who said yes, said she wasn’t expecting the proposal.

She said: ‘I was thrilled and excited.

‘It was such a surprise.’

The couple live in Freshwater on the Isle of Wight.

They were running to raise money for Kisspuppy, a charity which supports terminally-ill children.
