EXQUISITE paintings, furniture and a tour of a Mercedes Benz factory were among the items auctioned off at a charity event on Hayling Island.

Around £7,500 was raised at the auction, which was organised by Havant Rotary Club and held at Hayling Island Community Centre.

Half of the cash will go to Rotarian charities, while half will be donated to Hannah’s Holiday Home, a local charity which provides much-needed breaks for families with sick children.

Shirley Varnish, immediate past present of Havant Rotary Club, said: ‘All the lots sold except three.

‘Everything was donated by members and by people approached by members.

‘We did not expect to raise quite so much bearing in mind the economic climate. It all went extremely well.’
