The News has started an exciting new era with the launch of our own iPad app.

Available from the Apple App Store it includes the best news, features, sport and comment from around the Portsmouth area, enhanced with videos and picture packages.

And the app – available on a 30-day free trial – allows users to read the newspaper in traditional format as well as be able to access an archive of past copies.

Announcing the launch, Mark Waldron, editor of The News, said: ‘This is a major

step forward as we enhance the ways in which readers can enjoy The News.

‘Devices such as the iPad will play an increasingly important part in the way people get their information.

‘But the app gives subscribers the best of both worlds in that it offers the choice of either turning the pages of the newspaper or of reading the content in a digital format, with live news, video and enhanced use of

photographs.

‘Either choice provides a great new way for our readers and subscribers to keep in touch and up to date.’

As well as the editor’s picks of the day, the app includes sections for news, Pompey, sport, business lifestyle and nostalgia.

Navigation is simple. In the digital section of the app, users can scroll to browse content across all channels before clicking into articles and swiping to read more.

In the paper section, users can see and access every page of the latest edition, and use the downloads facility to read offline or ‘press the archive link to access previous editions.

The app, which can be downloaded at http://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/the-news/id555952987?ls=1&mt=8 costs £5.99 per month after a free 30-day trial

Readers who receive a delivery direct from The News can use the app for free and will receive a letter shortly detailing how they can arrange this after the 30-day trial. The same goes for our prepaid subscription voucher customers.
