ELDERLY people have been welcoming in the Chinese New Year.

Residents at The Parker Meadows home on Redlands Lane in Fareham enjoyed Chinese folk dancing, a Chinese Lion Dance and lots of traditional food.

The event was opened by the Mayor of Fareham, Councillor Dennis Steadman, and pupils from Cams Hill School were also involved.

Denise Aylott, activities co-ordinator at the home and organiser of the event, said: ‘It’s a great way for the community to get together to celebrate each year.

‘It’s about bringing good fortune to your community and to your area.

‘Particularly for elderly people who are often isolated – they are very keen to bring good luck to their area.

‘The residents love it. They always love a good celebration.’
