IT’S rare that Pompey fans get to travel as far as Gibraltar to watch their team play.

But next month supporters will head off to watch Pompey in the British territory surrounded by southern Spain.

And fan Gary Benham has offered to put them up in his home along the coast in Benalmadena – to raise money in memory of Pompey fan Tom Prince.

He is charging fans £10 per night to stay at his house, with all proceeds going to the Tom Prince Cancer Trust.

Gary’s daughter, Samantha, used to go to school with Tom, so he knows the family well.

Gary, 50, of the Spanish Portsmouth Supporters’ Club, said: ‘We moved over here about 12 years ago.

‘We have built the club up and we keep the flag flying.

‘It should be absolutely brilliant. There should be lots of sun and sangria.

‘Everybody is coming over. We will have so many coaches running to Gibraltar.

‘The Gibraltarians are going to be overwhelmed.

‘A lot of people are going to be very surprised.’

Supporters are asked to bring a blow-up mattress with many fans having to sleep around his swimming pool.

The deal also includes breakfast each morning.

Gary said he is thrilled to be able to support the charity.

‘It touches everyone’s heart,’ he said.

‘Most of us have got kids. Tom used to watch football, so it ticks so many boxes.’

Clinton Prince, Tom’s dad, said: ‘It’s fantastic.

‘Gary has got close contact with my family. It’s a wonderful idea. I just hope the sun shines for them.

‘To put up with all these people in his garden and then deciding to give the money to the Tom Prince Cancer Trust is extremely generous.

‘It shows the community spirit is out there in Spain too.’

Pompey’s game takes place on Friday, July 20.

So far, 21 people will be staying at Gary’s home, including Pompey superfan John Westwood.

There are limited spaces still available.

Supporters will travel to Gibraltar via coach.
