ANIMAL charities and rescues in Portsmouth are being urged to nominate themselves to receive a share of £500,000 from a charity.

Support Adoption For Pets has raised £10m since it launched in 2006 and to celebrate has pledged 10 £50,000 grants for animal charities across the UK.

The charity is calling on animal rescue centres and welfare organisations in Portsmouth and the surrounding areas to nominate themselves to receive a share of the fund.

Nominations are to be submitted in the form of a short video, introducing the charity and explaining how it would use the money.
