ENDURANCE swimmer Anna Wardley has had to give up in her latest record-breaking attempt.

The swimmer from Gosport was swimming around the Scottish isle of Tiree in the fourth of her series of challenges to circumnavigate islands.

She would have become the first person to swim around Tiree but has retired after 16 hours, nine minutes and eight seconds.

She was taken out of the water after about 22 miles of the 30-mile swim.

Anna, who has previously swum around Dragonera off Majorca, Portsea Island and Jersey, was due to finish the Tiree swim at about 5am tomorrow.

The fifth in her five-swim challenge is to swim around the Isle of Wight.
