THREE members of the same family were confirmed at a packed service led by the Bishop of Portsmouth.

Twins Martin and Wendy Lloyd, 11, along with their younger brother Simon, eight, were confirmed with eight other members of St George’s Church in Waterlooville.

Roy and Gillian Davies, who worship at St Mary’s Church, Hayling, were also confirmed on Sunday.

To the delight of regular worshippers at St George’s, the Bishop of Portsmouth attended to conduct the service and to confirm the candidates at the church.

Also in attendance, and playing a central part in the confirmation of the candidates, was the Archbishop of Kumasi, Ghana, Archbishop Daniel Sarfo, who is visiting the UK.

Father Mike Sheffield, the parish priest at St George’s, received a gift of a brightly-coloured stole from the visiting Archbishop.

He said: ‘We were delighted to welcome both Bishop Christopher and Archbishop Daniel to our church for this special service.

‘I believe this is the first time that an Archbishop has ever come to this church.

‘It was a great occasion and not only that the sun shone for us.’
